Wuhan Textile University is situated in the center of Guangu District, Wuhan, Hubei province, occupying an area of 130-plus hectares. WTU has been qualified the memberships of the following projects: National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China (the initial batch), Distinguished Engineer Education and Training Program of Ministry of Education, Top Ten Celebrated Fashion Schools of China and Hubei Provincial “Double-First Class” Initiative etc. Formerly as Wuhan Institute of Textile Engineering which was founded by Former Ministry of Textile Industry of PRC in 1958, Wuhan Textile University (henceforth referred to as WTU) has been developing as a regular full-time undergraduate university with multidisciplinary coordinated disciplines (including Science, Liberal Arts, Economy, Management, Arts and etc.), distinctive features and prominent advantages.
By implementing the initiative of introducing high-caliber talents, WTU has become a magnet to converge the elites from all walks of life. It is among the first batch of universities and colleges to be listed as the “Hubei Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Overseas High-caliber Talents”. Currently, WTU boasts a faculty of 2,200-plus members, among them there are 1,500-plus full-time teachers. At present, WTU has attracted about 10 Academicians of Academy of Natural Sciences and Engineering, including Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Weilin Xu and Academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Shunqi Mei, more than 30 candidates of national talent program and 260 candidates of provincial talent program.
The practice of adhering to both talents introduction and cultivation has enabled WTU to build a high-quality team of teaching faculty with lofty ideals and convictions, good morals, solid knowledge and in-depth learning, affection and benevolence.WTU has more than 2,200 faculty members and 25,000 undergraduates, postgraduates and international students etc. Currently, it provides 69 programs for undergraduate students, including 4 featured programs of National-level, 17 programs of First-class Discipline Construction Initiative of National-level, 3 programs for accreditation of engineering education by Ministry of Education, PRC, 8 programs of “Education and Cultivation Scheme for Outstanding Engineers”, as well as 7 provincial brand programs and 16 programs of the first-class disciplines of provincial level. The discipline textile science and engineering has been listed into “Domestic First-class Discipline Construction Initiative” in Hubei province. The other three disciplines, such as material science, chemistry, and engineering, are listed into the front 1% of ESI global ranking list.
WTU has possessed national-level and provincial-level research platforms including State Key Laboratory jointly established by the Ministry and the Province, National-local Joint Engineering Laboratory, Major Laboratory of the Ministry of Education and Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education. And it has achieved First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, Second Prize of National Technological Invention and other national and provincial high-level achievements. Academician Xu Weilin and his team have developed a high-temperature-resistant elastic sealing device for the Mars Landing Rover, which provides support for attitude adjustment during the “Devil 9 minutes”landing process.
