Guangdong University of Foreign Studies: Recruitment 2014: Faculty Positions

      Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), as a key provincial university, is known for its world’s leading international education. The university, located in South China, takes the lead in cultivation of international talents and comprises key research centers for foreign language and culture, international trade and international strategic studies. GDUFS serves 20,454 full-time undergraduate students, more than 2,000 graduate students and over 13,000 international and continuing-education students.

      Upholding the university’s motto of Pursuit of Integrity, Practice and Cross-cultural Learning, the university is committed to educating high quality global citizens and integrating professional education and foreign language training, which are key requirements for globally minded graduates with international vision and social responsibility. GDUFS offers 59 undergraduate major fields from eight academic disciplines, such as arts, finance, management and law. It hosts one national key academic discipline, 10 national and provincial key disciplines, two post-doctoral research station, 17 doctoral program, 40 master programs, and five professional masters programs. The university has long-term relationships with 252 universities and institutes from 37 countries and regions, and opened three Confucius Institutes oversea.

      GDUFS is located in Guangzhou, the economic hub of South China and a city with a long history and rich cultural legacy. The university has three campuses with a total area of 153 hectares. The North Campus, which covers an area of 63 hectares, is located at the northern foot of the Baiyun Mountain; the South Campus, with an area of 73 hectares, is situated in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center; and the Dalang Campus, having an area of 17 hectares, lies in Dalang, Baiyun District. The university is an ideal place for schooling, teaching and temperament cultivation, with fine surroundings featuring green trees, crystal streams, scenic bridges and fresh air.

      The university believes that talents are the fundament of university, so its promotion strategy is to recruit international talents of high-level. Currently, the talents of the university include: one member of the Disciplinary Appraisal Panels under the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, 12 members of the teaching advisory boards of various disciplines of the Ministry of Education, six faculty enjoying the Government Special Allowance of the State Council, one candidate of the New Century Hundred, Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project at the state level, six candidates of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, one professor funded by High-end Foreign Experts Recruitment Program, one scholar supported by National Thousand Talents Program, one distinguished professor of Pearl River Scholar, about 50 national and provincial distinguished teachers, over 40 provincial-level cultivation candidates of Guangdong Thousand, Hundred and Ten Project, over 30 Yunshan Scholars. Besides, the University employs over 100 guest professors and nearly 60 foreign experts on a long-term basis.

      GDUFS comprises over 20 national, provincial, municipal and university platforms: national key research centers for humanities and social sciences, supported by the Ministry of Education, China; key research centers on the breeding stage for regional and foreign country studies; Guangdong provincial key research centers for humanities and social sciences; Guangdong provincial soft science research center; and Guangzhou municipal key research center for humanities and social sciences. The University also hosts Guangdong Research Institute on International Strategies, one of Guangdong provincial intelligence databases and Research Institute of International Services Outsourcinng.

      Recently, the university led to establish two Collaborative Innovation Centers, i.e. the Foreign Language Studies and Language Service Center, and the Guangdong Go Global Center. These two centers were among the first Guangdong Provincial Collaborative Innovation Centers and were list as key breeding targets of Guangdong national “2011 Collaborative Innovation Center”. Meanwhile the university also got support from Key Project of the National Social Science Foundation, Key Project of the Ministry of Education, Innovative Team Project of the Ministry of Education, and other major projects. Therefore the university has a lot of high-quality research output, which brought the university scientific research awards and excellent output award for Philosophy and Social Science at Guangdong Province. GDUFS publishes four academic journals of national impact: Modern Foreign Languages, International Economics & Trade Research, Journal of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Journal of Strategy & Decision-Making.

3.1 Registration

3.2 Evaluation

3.2.1. High-level talents: Human Resources Office of GDUFS will invite experts to evaluate the research, teaching and overall quality of high-level talents;

3.2.2 General teaching and research positions: Human Resources Office of GDUFS will screen and evaluate applicant based on their submitted information. For the qualified candidates, the HR will communicate with relevant schools or institutes and ask the applicant to come for interview and teaching practice so that they can test the applicant’s teaching, research and overall quality.

3.2.3. Political Screen and Physical Examination. The Human Resources Office will investigate applicant’s political, ethical, conducts and law, and credits records. They will review the applicant’s qualifications and position requirements. Before signing the contract with the university, the applicant needs to do the regular physical examination as required.

3.2.4. Public notification and employment. The Human Resources Office will send the evaluation and physical examination results of the potential employee to the president office group. After the presidents’ approval, the HR will send out a public notification about the applicant and his/her future position. Without objections, the HR will send the relevant documents to the superior unit and help the employee to complete the relevant procedures.

3.3.he university deal with high-level talents or talents in need case by case and the recruitment of these talents can be negotiated.

4.1 The remuneration package of “Pearl river scholar” follows the relevant regulations of Guangdong Province.

4.2 The salary for “Yunshan Scholar” will be discussed individually. The annual salary for the Yunshan Leading Scholar, Yunshan Outstanding Scholar and Yunshan Youth Scholar shall be at least RMB 600,000, 400,000 and 300,000 respectively. The salary for the Yunshan Chair Professor will be paid in terms of actual employment time on a monthly basis and shall be at least RMB 30,000 per month.
